San Francisco\u2019s county office of education will open a new special education program for students with extensive needs, hoping to cut down on the school district\u2019s reliance on expensive and inconvenient non-public school partners.<\/p>\n

The San Francisco Unified School District said Wednesday that the school will serve students with autism and intellectual disabilities who require\u00a0 \u201ccomplex\u201d academic, behavioral and social-emotional support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new program will help us better serve students with extensive support needs here in San Francisco while strengthening partnerships with families and reducing the need for students to travel long distances for services,\u201d Superintendent Maria Su said in a statement.<\/p>\n
