Pacifica tore down a beloved local cafe on Tuesday as frustrated residents debated the future of the city\u2019s coastline, which is slipping toward the sea amid a constant barrage of waves and erosion.<\/p>\n

Several hundred stood in silence as excavators ripped the Chit Chat Cafe\u2019s sign off its facade at the base of the Pacifica Municipal Pier, the Pacific Ocean steadily pummeling the rocks below.<\/p>\n

Pacifica resident Kirk Edison stood on a concrete barrier to film the machines tearing apart the cafe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel bad for the owners,\u201d said Edison, who brought his kids to the pier growing up. \u201cI will be shocked if they fix it. You can\u2019t beat Mother Nature \u2014 she will win.\u201d<\/p>\n
