Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Monday that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating him and his wife, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, in retaliation for his opposition to President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Newsom took the unusual step of discussing the probe in a video released by his office.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn recent days, federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends and former employees,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cNot because they found a crime. Because they are simply trying to find one.\u201d<\/p>\n
