Environmental activists and community members rallied on the steps of San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday, calling for city leaders to push for a full cleanup of radioactive contamination at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.<\/p>\n

Holding signs like \u201cNo homes on toxic land,\u201d more than 100 members of 28 local organizations demanded a comprehensive retesting of the site, full cleanup of all contamination, greater community oversight and health reparations for residents.<\/p>\n

The rally comes after the U.S. Navy disclosed this spring that radiological material was found in a cabinet at the former naval shipyard in April during the long-running cleanup operation. It\u2019s the latest in a long line of discoveries of dangerous substances at the infamous superfund site, which could soon be developed into thousands of homes.<\/p>\n
