One man was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting in downtown San José on Sunday night, just blocks from the San Pedro Square area where thousands of fans gathered for World Cup watch parties.
San José police said that around 9:12 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near North Market and West Santa Clara streets and found an unconscious man on the sidewalk with at least one gunshot wound.

Officers began life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a department news release.
